Clemson Offense Continues to Show Signs of Growth

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – With each passing week, the Clemson offense continues to show signs of growth.

Since the season-opening loss to Georgia that saw the Tigers muster just three points, the offense has been humming right along. In fact, there has been very little to go wrong since that dud of a showing in Atlanta.

In wins over App State, NC State, Stanford, the offense got off to fast starts and never looked back. Even against FSU, Clemson jumped up 17-0. There was very little adversity.

However, in the 49-14 win over Wake Forest on Saturday, the 10th-ranked Tigers found themselves trailing for the very first time since the Georgia game.

After failing to do much of anything on the first two possessions and behind 7-0 after the first quarter, Cade Klubnik would guide Clemson to touchdowns on four consecutive drives in the second quarter to make it 28-14 going into the half.

“We are just doing what we do,” Klubnik said. “Just executing at a high rate. There are some plays that I want back from today that will be nagging on me when I am watching the film because I pride myself on my accuracy and I wasn’t very accurate at times. Just kind of realizing what that was and kind of bounce-back.”

That kind of response is just one more sign of growth on the offensive side of the ball.

“I thought we did a pretty good job of playing catch today, catching and throwing. That is just execution,” Klubnik added. “That is treating it like it is game day at practice. And whenever we get out here it’s just kind of what we do.”

There is a night and day difference between what is being seen now and what was seen last season and even in the first game this season. The biggest reason for the change? According to Klubnik, that answer is simple.

“Just executing at a high rate,” he said. “Just doing what we do and not making mistakes.”
