Clemson’s Kylon Griffin: ‘Turf Monsters are Real’

CLEMSON – Clemson remains undefeated in ACC play after its win over Wake Forest last Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Tigers look to keep the streak going as they will host Virginia at Memorial Stadium on Saturday (noon, ACCN).

Kylon Griffin spoke with the media on Tuesday to give a recap of the game against Wake Forest and the season he has had this year and more.

–Griffin recorded his first interception of the season in the game against the Demon Deacons. He said, “It was a play that we worked on all throughout the week, so I really just tried to apply what we‘ve been working on and stay calm in the moment and make the play.” As he was headed to the end zone, Griffin said, “turf monsters are real, so one just got me. I got a little excited.”

–The safety seems to be known as a quiet, laid-back person. He mentioned it is something every coach has gotten on him about, even in little league, but it is something that he is working on. Griffin said, “I don’t look at it as a bad thing as long as I’m communicating and we’re all on the same page on the field. That’s what matters.”

–The redshirt sophomore was asked if he feels like he has developed during his time with Clemson as the program prides itself on development in my areas. He answered, “extremely.” “Freshman year, I wasn’t ready, and I knew that. Everybody wants to come in and play fresh out of high school, but sometimes you have to have that self-awareness and be able to go on scout team and get better.” He later added, “take pride in getting better and eventually you’ll get there.”

–Avieon Terrell has been a standout for the Tigers defense so far this season and Griffin spoke highly of the impact Terrell has made. “I told Avieon he’s playing the best he’s ever played…I think he’s the best player on defense so far so I just want him to keep going and not get distracted.”
