FLORENCE, S.C. – Amare Adams is currently the highest-rated player in Clemson’s 2025 recruiting class.
It’s a class that has been the victim of three decommitments since August and Adams’ name has been one that has been routinely floated out there as message board fodder as another player that could potentially back off his verbal pledge and reopen his recruitment.
With the early signing period set to begin in just a few short weeks, the newly-anointed 5-star talent says that there are teams that have tried making strong runs at him. However, Adams is adamant that he is still fully locked in with the Tigers.
“Teams are trying to get at me,” Adams told the Clemson Insider. “I’m not responding because I’m loyal to the Tigers. I just want be a Clemson Tiger.”
In fact, Adams insists the chatter is nothing more than rumor, and that anything said about him potentially wavering was all smoke and no fire.
“I just ignore what they say,” Adams added. “Because they be trying to make up stuff, just trying to throw me off. But I don’t really pay too much mind about that. I just focus on what I got to do and just finishing out here.”
For now, Adams is fully focused on finishing out his high school career on a high note. The hope is that he can help lead his South Florence team to a third straight appearance in the 4A state title game. The Bruins won it all in 2022, then lost a heartbreaker 34-32 to Westside in last year’s championship contest.
After a 36-19 win over Lower Richland on Friday night, South Florence is now 7-2 overall and 4-0 in region play. The Bruins are currently ranked No. 4 in the state, with their only two losses coming in non-region play at Summerville and at Northwestern, both 5A teams.
“Our improvement has been off the wall,” Adams said. “We had some tough teams like West Florence, Summerville, Northwestern. After those three games, we really turned it on and we really started playing hard. Throughout every week, we started getting better and better.”
Adams continued to wreak havoc in the Bruins’ latest win, unofficially registering three tackles, a sack and two quarterback pressures. One of those pressures resulted in an interception. And he did it while only playing the first half and fighting through cramps in the first quarter of play.
Now Adams and South Florence get set for what is arguably the biggest game of the season to this point. The Bruins will travel to Hartsville next Friday to take on the Red Foxes with the winner taking home the region title.
“All we got to do is focus on what we got to do,” Adams said. “Because Hartsville, they’re a pretty good team. They are undefeated in the region, we are undefeated in the region. So we really got to play hard. That’s a tough team. So we got to go hard and practice. Getting that intensity going in practice. And then we’ll see how Friday goes.”
