FLORENCE, S.C. – Lennix Valarie has had himself some kind of breakout senior campaign.

The in-state wideout, out of South Florence, has quickly evolved into one of Bruins’ quarterback Messiah Jackson’s favorite targets and that is with South Carolina commit Jayden Sellers lining up at one of the other receiver spots.

Valarie, who is a teammate of current 5-star commit Amare Adams, took his first visit to Clemson a few weeks back for the Tigers’ blowout win over NC State. The 6-foot-3 receiver said since the trip, he has been hearing from receivers coach Tyler Grisham and general manager Jordan Sorrells on a regular basis.

“A lot. I’ve talked to the wide receiver coach and the general manager,” Valarie told The Clemson Insider when asked how often he was hearing from the staff. “They’re trying to get me up there. They’re just waiting to see how things play out, really.”

Just over a week ago, Valarie had more than 100 receiving yards and three touchdown catches in South’s 69-13 win over crosstown rival Wilson. He added another touchdown catch in Friday’s 36-19 win over Lower Richland.

For the season, Valarie is second on the team with 558 receiving yards. He is averaging more than 20 yards per catch and has reeled in eight touchdown passes.

Despite the solid numbers, Valarie is still somewhat of an unknown commodity. Much of that is due to how run-heavy the South Florence offense was a season ago, but with the Bruins throwing it around much more this season, Valarie’s had ample opportunity to showcase his skills.

“Not too many people know about me,” he said. “I would say I am under the radar.”

At the same time, the senior wideout readily admits he is much-improved from last season. He put in a lot of work over the offseason to ensure he would be at his best in 2024.

“I would say my coaches staying on top of me,” Valarie added. “And the work I put in in the weight room. Being in the weight room 24/7. That’s really it.”

While he has yet to earn an offer from the Tigers, Valarie is absolutely on the radar of the coaching staff, and if certain things break his way, maybe things change.

If he were to get that phone call, Valarie believes it would be validation of all that hard work he has put in. On the field and off.

“It would mean a lot,” Valarie said. “Like I said, get my name out. Just get me from under the radar.”
