Swinney ‘Excited’ About True Freshman CB Slated to Redshirt

Clemson is planning to redshirt this talented true freshman cornerback, but head coach Dabo Swinney is pleased with his progress.

During his weekly Tuesday press conference, Swinney spoke about Corian Gipson, who enrolled at Clemson this past January as a four-star and top-100 national prospect in the 2024 recruiting class.

The Lone Star State native has appeared in two games this season, making his college debut on special teams in the Aug. 31 opener vs. Georgia before playing six snaps on defense in the Sept. 7 game vs. App State.

Clemson has three games left in the regular season and intends to play Gipson in two of them, thus allowing him to keep his redshirt and year of eligibility.

Swinney likes what he’s seen from the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder now that he’s healthy again.

“Gipson is really coming along as well. We’ve got two games left with him. So, hopefully we can get through this game (at Pitt on Saturday), and then he’ll be ready to go,” Swinney said on Tuesday.

“He’s finally healthy. He was really behind when he came in here, coming off the surgery, and wasn’t able to really do anything in the spring and so forth. So, really pleased with the progress that he’s made. Excited about him.”

A product of Lancaster (Texas) High School, Gipson had two interceptions and 16 total pass breakups as a senior in 2023, helping his team to a 9-6 record and a playoff berth. He also also ran track and has been clocked at 10.62 in the 100 meters.
