CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media on Wednesday evening following his team’s practice at the Allen Reeves Football Complex in Clemson.
In his final media availability of the week ahead of the 20th-ranked Tigers’ game at Pitt on Saturday, Swinney gave an injury update on defensive lineman Peter Woods.
The star defensive lineman did not travel with the team to Virginia Tech last Saturday after taking a shot to the head in the game vs. Louisville on Nov. 2.
Swinney was asked on Wednesday how Woods is doing.
“Good,” Swinney said. “He obviously missed last week, so he was a little further ahead of those guys (other players who were injured last Saturday) starting the week. So, he’s in a good spot.”
However, Swinney might have let the cat out of the bag on the status of his star defensive player. The Clemson coach was asked if he was a little more confident with kick protection this week after having a sixth kick blocked in last week’s win over the Hokies.
“We made some changes for last week and those guys did what they needed to do, but we got Peter back this week, so that is a positive,” Swinney said.
As a sophomore this season, Woods has tallied 14 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder also missed time earlier this season with a leg injury after getting chop-blocked and injured during the Appalachian State game on Sept. 7.
Clemson (7-2, 6-1 ACC) and Pittsburgh (7-2, 3-2) are set to kick off at the Panthers’ Acrisure Stadium at 12 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN.
