After leaving each of the past two games with a head injury, the status for Pitt starting quarterback Eli Holstein is up in the air for Saturday’s matchup with No. 20 Clemson.
On Thursday, head coach Pat Narduzzi told reporters that Holstein would be a gametime decision and that he has yet to practice this week. Backup Nate Yarnell took first team reps this week.
Holstein was just 10-of-23 for 121 yards before leaving last Saturday’s loss to Virginia. Yarnell wasn’t much better, hitting on just 4-of-12 for 44 yards. While he did throw one touchdown pass, he also threw two interceptions.
Holstein is completing 62% of his passes this season but has failed to hit the 150-yard mark in three of his last four starts. He has thrown for 2,177 yards this season with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Yarnell has appeared in six games for the Panthers this season, going 30-of-48 for 314 yards with five touchdowns and the two picks.
Clemson and Pitt is set for a noon kick on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. ESPN will have the television broadcast.
