Numbers Still ‘Fluid’ with 2025 Class as Early Signing Day Rapidly Approaches

CLEMSON – With Early Signing Day less than a month away, Clemson currently sits at just 14 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class.

The Tigers have seen five different players decommit in the class, with four of those taking place since August. And all four of those players were Top 100 talents.

Despite those decommitments leaving Clemson a few players short of what they were anticipating signing, Dabo Swinney has always maintained this class was going to be a smaller one, although there is another spot or two the coaches are still looking to fill.

“It’s fluid,” Swinney responded when asked about how many they were looking to sign. “We’re over the spots that we have. But you anticipate a few guys maybe not being here. We feel great about our roster and the guys that are gonna be back, and some of the development that we’ve seen in these guys.”

The early signing period was moved up this year and will begin on December 4, just a couple of days after conference championship games are played.

Currently, the Tigers’ 2025 recruiting class ranks just 18th in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. However, when you look at the average rating per recruit, it’s No. 8 nationally, meaning the ones they have gotten are really good players.

“We really don’t have a lot of spots open on our roster,” Swinney said. “We like the group that we have.”

“We look at who’s back and who we project as starters, who we’re signing, maybe you have some guys that aren’t playing as much, guys that want to move on.”

Clemson only has six players that will exhaust their eligibility after this season. Three on the defensive side and three on offense.

“The only guys that have to leave that are starting for us, on defense, are Payton Page, R.J. (Mickens) and Barrett (Carter). On the offensive side, it’s Marcus Tate, (Jake Briningstool) and (Phil) Mafah. Everybody else can be back. So we don’t have a lot of spots.”

At the same time, Swinney also knows he has to plan for some unexpected attrition and the fall portal window opens on December 9, just a few days after Early Signing Day. However, Swinney will cross that bridge when the time comes. For now, the focus is squarely on putting the finishing touches on the current signing class.

“We really like our class that we’re getting ready to put together,” the head coach said. “Really excited about that group that’s gonna come in here and fill some spots for us.”
