Swinney Comments on Lack of Snaps for Jeadyn Lukus

CLEMSON – Jeadyn Lukus played a season-low 17 snaps in No. 20 Clemson’ 24-20 win over Pitt on Saturday.

The junior corner has been a staple on the backend of the Tigers’ defense this season, starting all 10 games. However, against the Panthers, it was Ashton Hampton that saw a majority of playing time, particularly in the second half.

During his weekly Zoom call on Sunday, Dabo Swinney was asked about Lukus’ lack of playing time, and the head coach confirmed that it was not due to an injury.

“Yeah just performance,” Swinney said. “We just felt like Ashton was playing better at the moment. A couple of missed tackles and Ashton was just playing better.”

Hampton’s 76 snaps against Pitt were by far a season-high. His previous high came in the win over Virginia Tech, when the freshman logged 40.
