4-Star Clemson OL Target Adam Guthrie Explains Flip Tweet, Updates Recruitment

Adam Guthrie is one of the more sought-after tackle prospects in the 2026 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive lineman (Miami Trace, OH) has well over three dozen offers and has been on Clemson’s radar for quite some time. Guthrie picked up an offer from the Tigers in September while visiting for the blowout win over NC State.

However, Guthrie made news in Clemson circles over the weekend for a different reason. In a now-deleted social media post, Guthrie retweeted a post from 4-star DB Noah King, who is currently committed to Kansas State and a member of the 2025 class. Guthrie tagged multiple coaches on the Tigers’ staff, suggesting the school flip King.

It’s not all that odd to see high school players helping recruit for the program in which they are committed, but it’s not every day that you see an uncommitted player doing it.

Guthrie and King are friends. Guthrie insists there was nothing to the tweet, other than one friend trying to help another out, although the Tigers did just lose a defensive back from its 2025 class.

“That’s my boy Noah,” Guthrie told The Clemson Insider. “He’s the second-highest-rated recruit in Kansas State’s class. He was just telling me how much he would love to be at Clemson. And I was like, it would be great if me and him were there.”

While Guthrie isn’t quite ready to announce any decision, he is getting close to releasing a list of his top schools. After his last visit, he said Clemson will be on the list, as Dabo Swinney and Matt Luke have done a really good job of making him feel wanted.

“Definitely just the feel of it,” Guthrie said. “Just the feel of the locker room, the feel of the coaching staff. How much coach Luke likes me and wants me there. Just the overall family feel of it.”

And his relationship with Luke is really starting to blossom.

“It’s developed really good,” Guthrie said. “Me and coach Luke definitely have a great relationship and hopefully we continue to build that up.”

Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State are some of the other schools Guthrie said are recruiting him the hardest. He has taken visits to each this season and will back at Ohio State this weekend for its rivalry game against Michigan in the Horseshoe.

While the Tigers do have some stiff competition in this recruitment, Guthrie said there are a couple of things that makes Clemson stand out.

“Just the overall message that the coaching staff is telling me,” Guthrie said. “And just the way I love it.”

On3 ranks Guthrie No. 37 overall and No. 7 among all tackle prospects, and like most recruits, he’s just looking for the right fit. A place that feels like home and a program he knows can develop his talents.

“A place that can develop me the best and a place that feels like home to me,” Guthrie said.

When asked if Clemson checked those boxes, Guthrie had a quick response.

“Definitely.”
