Big News from North Carolina

The list of active college football coaches with a national championship is now cut to two. With just one game to play, North Carolina has fired head coach Mack Brown, first reported by Matt Zenitz for CBS Sports.

Brown and the Tar Heels’ season hasn’t gone as planned with quarterback Max Johnson suffering a season-ending injury in the opener and it’s led to a 6-5 record as the year comes to a close. There hasn’t been a shortage of chaos this season as Brown was amid rumors of a retirement before announcing his plans to return for 2025 but that is now out of the question.

Over six seasons at North Carolina, Brown was 44-32 with five bowl game berths. With Brown out of a job, it leaves two active coaches in college football with a national championship win: Kirby Smart and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney.
