With Clemson set to head out to Austin later this week to face off against Texas in the opening round of the College Football Playoff, all eyes are on the Longhorns.

However, on Monday, defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin was asked about Sammy Brown’s lack of snaps in the fourth quarter in the 17-14 loss to the rival Gamecocks on November 30.

“Just coverage-wise on what we were trying to do to limit their quarterback run in those situations,” Goodwin said. “They started running the quarterback more and just having to get more guys involved in the quarterback run game from that standpoint.”

The true freshman saw very few snaps in the final quarter of that loss, as South Carolina was able to score 10 fourth quarter points to complete the comeback win. Despite barely seeing the field in the final quarter, Brown still had a team-high nine tackles while also adding a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

When asked if the goal was to get more speed on the field, Goodwin had a one word response.

“Definitely.”
