CLEMSON – Clemson drew the 12-seed in the first round of the College Football Playoff and is heading to Austin, Texas to face the No. 5 seed Texas Longhorns.
This will be the first meeting between the two historic programs.
Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods spoke with the media prior to the Tigers’ game against the Longhorns and about his first playoff game, putting together four quarters of football and more.
–This will be the sophomore’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff, and he’s been telling people the Tigers are “hungry” to win. Woods said, “We’ve never done it before. It’s part of our lineage and part of our history, but nobody on this team has ever won a National Championship. So, I think that’s something a lot of people aren’t taking into account is how hungry we are to get this thing done.”
–Woods was asked about his perspective of Nolan Hauser’s game winning kick in the ACC Championship game. He said, “I was on the field…I just kept telling myself we get our job done and he’s going to make the kick. There was no doubt in my mind that he wasn’t going to make the kick.”
–In Texas’s two losses this year, they were held to only a total of 60 rushing yards. Woods said Georgia did a good job playing assignment football in those games. “I think that’s what it’ll come down to for us, just make sure that we don’t get too frenzy…make sure we stay sound in our assignment.”
–The sophomore said Clemson has not played its best football at all this season. “We’ve seen it in spurts…we’ve just got to do the job. We just got to do it diligently and it just comes down to having a mindset of 60 minutes or however long it takes.” It’s going to take the Tigers firing on all cylinders during all four quarters against Texas.
