A Clemson pro found the end zone on Monday night for his first touchdown of the 2024 season – and the first postseason touchdown of his young NFL career.
Former Tiger standout and current Los Angeles Rams tight end Davis Allen caught a touchdown pass right before halftime of the Rams’ eventual NFC Wild Card Playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Allen snagged a pass from Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and scored on a 13-yard catch and run with 15 seconds left in the second quarter of the Rams’ 27-9 win at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., where the game was played due to the wildfires in LA.
Allen entered Monday’s game with six receptions for 39 yards on 13 targets across 15 games this season. As a rookie in 2023, the 6-foot-6, 251-pounder caught 10 passes for 95 yards in 15 games and scored his first NFL touchdown in the Rams’ Week 14 matchup at the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 10, 2023.
Allen was selected by Los Angeles in the fifth round (175th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft following his four-year Clemson career from 2019-22, when he recorded 88 receptions, 951 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns over 54 games. He was a third-team All-ACC selection in 2022, when he posted career highs in receptions (39), receiving yards (443), touchdowns (five) and offensive snaps (701) while starting all 14 games.
Allen left Clemson as one of only six tight ends in school history to tally double-digit career touchdown receptions, as his 12 touchdown catches tied John McMakin (12 from 1969-71), Dwayne Allen (12 from 2009-11) and Brandon Ford (12 from 2009-12) for the second-most career touchdown receptions by a tight end in Clemson history.
With the win over the Vikings, Allen and the Rams moved on to the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs and will face the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday, Jan. 19 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (3 p.m., NBC/Peacock).
