Four of Clemson’s five starters scored in double figures, as the Tigers rolled to a 70-59 victory over Georgia Tech Tuesday at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. The Tigers led from the start and never trailed in a game they controlled throughout.

Jaeden Zackery led Clemson with 21 points, while Ian Schieffelin added 16 points. Chase Hunter dropped in 14 points and Viktor Lakhin scored 10 points in what was an important road win for the Tigers.

Zackery’s 21 points were one shy of his career high, which he scored against Clemson last year in the ACC Tournament, while playing for Boston College. It marked Zackery’s fifth 20-point performance of his career.

Schieffelin also had six assists, seven rebounds and four steals, while Lakhin had four assists, six rebounds and one block.

Zackery, who also had six rebounds and three steals, paced a Clemson defense that harassed the Yellow Jackets all night. Tech opened the game 1-for-12 from the field and finished the half just 2-for-10 from behind the arc.

Georgia Tech (8-10, 2-5 ACC) finished the night 19-for-54 overall from the field (35 percent) and 7-for-20 from behind the 3-point line. Clemson forced 14 Tech turnovers, which led to 15 points.

The Tigers finished the night 23-for-52 (44 percent) from the field and 8-for-23 from behind the arc.

Clemson (14-4, 6-1 ACC) went on a 7-0 run to grab a 17-point lead, 54-37, with 9:08 to play. The run was capped with a Chauncey Wiggins 3-pointer from the left wing. It was Wiggins’ first three of the night.

During the run, Clemson was 3-for-3 from the field, while Tech missed five straight during the stretch and went over four minutes without a basket.

Baye Ndongo led Georgia Tech with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

It was over when

Schieffelin drained a 3-pointer from the right wing with 2:04 to play in the game. That gave the Tigers a 62-50 lead after Tech rallied to cut what was a 19-point second half lead to nine points.

Clemson had gone 5:34 without a basket before the Schieffelin’s three.

The Tigers owned a 57-38 lead with 8:27 to play. The 19-point lead was its largest of the night.

Ugly start

Clemson and Tech both got off to slow starts. Clemson was 4-for-12 in the first nine minutes of the game, while Tech was 1-for-12. The Yellow Jackets went the first eight minutes without a point, as the Tigers built an early 8-0 lead.

Both teams finished the half much better as the Tigers led 36-25 at the break.

Clemson finished the first half 14 of 31 (45 percent) from the field. The Yellow Jackets were 30.4 percent (7-23).

Injuries

Clemson forward Ian Schieffelin is still banged up. He was wearing a back brace at times while resting during the game on Tuesday. He is also dealing with a calf strain.

Schieffelin aggravated his back with 11:53 to go in the game, but he did return.

Zackery went out of the game with 16:23 to play after it appeared he injured his leg following a 3-pointer from the right side. It was his third 3-pointer of the game at the time. He did return with 12:37 to play in the game and finished with a game-high 21 points.

Clemson will stay on the road. The Tigers travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday where it will take on Pitt. Tip is set for noon and will be broadcasted on the CW.
