Big Change Coming to Doug Kingsmore Stadium

CLEMSON – When fans enter Doug Kingsmore Stadium for the first time this season to watch Clemson Baseball, there will be some things that are different compared to years past.

One of the biggest changes is that the visitor’s bullpen has been moved out into foul territory down the left-field line. The area that used to serve as that bullpen will now be open to fans. It will also serve as a beer garden. That’s right. Alcohol sales are coming to Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

“That whole area that was the visiting team’s bullpen is now more of a beer garden,” head coach Erik Bakich said on Thursday. “That’s a standing-room-only ticket and we are going to be selling beer this year, which is huge.”

Bakich is entering his third season as Clemson’s head coach. In each of his first two years, the Tigers have won 40 or more games and earned a national seed. Last season, he guided Clemson to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament, a feat the Tigers had not accomplished since 2010.

Bakich has called for alcohol sales in the stadium on multiple occasions in the past, believing it will enhance the game day experience. Now he gets his wish. And opposing pitchers will now have to warm up in front of that beer garden.

“We want the rowdy crowd, we want the beer-drinking people to come out here and have a blast,” Bakich added. “And the opposing pitchers are going to have to get warm right in front of that section. So I am excited to see how that looks.”

Clemson will open its home schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m., when the Tigers take on Presbyterian College.
