With the contact period winding down, members of the Clemson coaching staff are making some of their final stops.
The Clemson Insider has learned that on Thursday, running backs coach C.J. Spiller was in to see 4-star running back Jae Lamar (Colquitt County, Moultrie, GA). The 6-foot, 205-pound prospect is one of the more sought-after backs in the 2026 class.
Lamar has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State and Michigan, among others. The Tigers have yet to offer.
Lamar ranks No. 121 overall in the 247 Composite Rankings and No. 13 among all players at the position. He is also No. 13 in the talent-rich state of Georgia.
Assistant linebackers coach Ben Boulware was at the high school of 5-star LB Xavier Griffin on Wednesday. This is the second time the Southern Cal commit has gotten a visit from a member of the staff. Safeties coach Mickey Conn was in to see Griffin earlier in the week.
Griffin, who picked up one of the Tigers’ opening offers last June, has a couple of connections to Clemson. He is a former teammate of current defensive tackle Champ Thompson and his grandmother played basketball at the school in the 1980s.
Griffin has been committed to the Trojans since July, but rumors of a decommitment at some point in the future have been swirling. Griffin is considered by most to be the top linebacker in the class and a Top 20 player overall.
Cornerbacks coach Mike Reed was in to see 3-star corner Raderrion Daniels (Lake Cormorant, MS) on Wednesday. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect has more than two dozen offers including Ole Miss, Arkansas, LSU, SMU and Louisville. Clemson has yet to offer.
Offensive line coach Matt Luke was in Mississippi at the high school of 3-star Mitchell Smith (Picayune Memorial) on Thursday. This is a relationship that is just getting started, with Smith telling TCI he got to spend around half an hour with Luke.
The 6-foot-6, 340-pounder has close to 20 offers with Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Arkansas being just a few of those. Smith said it’s possible he visits in the spring but nothing is official as of yet.
Luke also stopped in to visit offensive line prospect Fletcher Turk (Hebron Christian, Dacula, GA). Luke took in one of his basketball practices. The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder picked up his first Power-4 offer from Georgia Tech last week. He then visited with the Yellow Jackets last weekend.
