What They Are Saying: Clemson Downs No. 2 Duke

CLEMSON — Clemson downed No. 2 Duke, 77-71, in a thriller at Littlejohn Coliseum on Saturday night.

With the victory, the Tigers (19-5, 11-2 ACC) handed the Blue Devils (20-3, 12-1) their first ACC loss of the season.

Clemson snapped Duke’s 16-game winning streak, which was the longest active streak in Division I. The Tigers have now won five of their last seven home games vs. Duke, and Clemson earned its fifth consecutive win vs. an AP top-five opponent – the longest active streak in Division I.

Duke had not allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent from the field this season before the Tigers shot 58.8 percent.

Viktor Lakhin led Clemson with 22 points and was an efficient 9-of-12 shooting while adding four rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

Chase Hunter stepped up big for the Tigers down the stretch, scoring the go-ahead bucket on a layup that gave Clemson a 72-71 lead with 38 seconds left. He would later hit a pair of clutch free throws to put the Tigers up by four points with 14 seconds to go, before coming up with a big block on Duke’s ensuing possession, and then icing the win with two more free throws with five seconds remaining. He scored six of the Tigers’ final seven points and finished the night with 14 points.
