Hopkins Honors Late Father as He Arrives to Super Bowl

DeAndre Hopkins arrived to Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in a special outfit honoring his late father.

The former Clemson star and current Kansas City Chiefs receiver wore a coat – a mink jacket – that was left to him by his father, who passed away 33 years ago.

Sunday marked the first time that Hopkins wore the coat. He donned it as he got off the team bus on his way into the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Earlier this past week, Hopkins was emotional while speaking to the media about his meaningful Super Bowl outfit.

“My dad died in 1992, and he left me a couple things. And one of the things that he left me was a mink jacket,” Hopkins said. “And so I always said I would wear that mink jacket to my wedding or to the Super Bowl, whichever one happened first. Obviously I’m not married so I’m gonna wear my daddy’s mink jacket.”

A 12-year NFL veteran, Hopkins, 32, will finally have the chance to play in his first Super Bowl when the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles (6:30 p.m., FOX).

The five-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler was traded to the Chiefs from the Tennessee Titans in October for a conditional fifth-round pick. Since being shipped to Kansas City, Hopkins has recorded 42 receptions for 448 yards and four touchdowns across 10 regular season games and two playoff games. Prior to the trade, he posted 15 catches for 173 yards and a touchdown in six games with the Titans this season.

A 2013 first-round pick of the Houston Texans, Hopkins has amassed 984 receptions for 12,965 yards and 83 touchdowns during his Hall of Fame-caliber career with the Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Titans and Chiefs.
