Two Former Tigers Listed Among NFL Offseason ‘Dream Scenarios’

Pro Football Focus recently listed “dream scenarios” for every NFL team this offseason.

A couple of former Clemson star wideouts – Tee Higgins and Mike Williams – were mentioned among those dream scenarios.

PFF sees Higgins returning to the Cincinnati Bengals as one dream scenario for the franchise.

Higgins was widely considered the best player slated to become a free agent this offseason. However, the Bengals are reportedly focused on signing Higgins to a long-term deal and are expected to use the franchise tag on him again.

“The Bengals hold the keys to the NFL offseason, and their decision will dictate much of how this cycle unfolds,” PFF’s Mason Cameron wrote. “Tee Higgins is again the top pending free agent on the market, and Cincinnati again has the cap space to accommodate the franchise tag. While there are pros and cons to both, the bottom line is Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase and Joe Burrow make up one of the most lethal passing offenses in the game.”

Although it looks like the Bengals likely won’t let Higgins hit the open market, PFF says Higgins would be the perfect free-agent signing for three other teams — the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Commanders – in the event Cincinnati were to let him test the market:

“Armed with $92 million in cap space, new general manager John Spytek has the war chest to make a splash in free agency. What better way than to sign the top free agent? Should Higgins escape the franchise tag, he will command a massive deal, and the Raiders not only have the ability to match almost anyone but also enough left over to build around their newly minted WR1.

“Currently projected to hold more than $63 million in cap space, the Chargers can afford to hand out the lucrative contract it will take to sway Higgins to Los Angeles. This team also offers something many others can’t: the opportunity to play with an established passer in Justin Herbert. That could appeal to Higgins, who is well aware of an elite passer’s effect on team and individual success.

“Washington profiles as one of the most alluring teams for Higgins, possessing the money to facilitate a hefty deal with the third-most projected cap space ($75 million) and the promise of playing with the league’s most explosive young quarterback in Jayden Daniels. Adding Higgins to the mix with Terry McLaurin — both of whom are coming off career years — would instantly assemble the most lethal receiving corps in the NFC.”

Higgins has amassed 330 catches for 4,595 yards and 34 touchdowns over his first five NFL seasons (2020-24) after being selected by the Bengals in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Higgins dealt with injuries while playing under the franchise tag in 2024, but was still highly productive when on the field, posting 73 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in 12 games. His 10 touchdown catches tied for sixth most in the NFL.

Meanwhile, one of PFF’s dream scenarios for the Baltimore Ravens is Mike Williams signing with the franchise in free agency.

Williams recorded 10 receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown in 10 games (nine regular season, one postseason) with the Pittsburgh Steelers this past season after they acquired him from the New York Jets before the November NFL trade deadline. In his Pittsburgh debut, he scored his first Steelers touchdown on an amazing over-the-shoulder catch that was the game-winning score against the Commanders back on Nov. 10.

Before being shipped to Pittsburgh, Williams was in his first season with the Jets. He signed a one-year deal with the Jets last March after being released by the Chargers. Prior to this past season, Williams spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Chargers, who made him the seventh overall selection in the 2017 draft.

“Without much cap space to maneuver, the Ravens will have a limited pool of free-agent options,” Cameron wrote. “One potential target to fill in nicely as a big-bodied X-receiver could be Mike Williams. While he struggled in 2024, another offseason to regain his form post-ACL surgery in 2023 could pay dividends. In six seasons with the Chargers prior to his injury, he posted a 72.0-plus PFF receiving grade each year, presenting a solid value, if he can get back on track.”

Williams, who has been a dynamic wideout and big-play threat since entering the league, has piled up 330 catches for 5,104 yards and 32 touchdowns across 106 career NFL games to date.
