Clemson Lacrosse Stays Undefeated After Vanquishing Queens

CLEMSON — Clemson Lacrosse can’t be stopped. They haven’t been stopped yet, at least.

The Clemson Tigers defeated Queens University of Charlotte 25-5 today, extending their win streak to six games and remaining undefeated since the start of the season. What a place to be in your third year as a program.

After going up by ten scores entering the second half, the Tigers didn’t let off the gas and only let Queens score one goal in the last two quarters.

Clemson attackers Kayla Mcleod and Lindsey Marshall dominated, scoring hat tricks and creating a huge offensive spark for the team. Fellow attacker Regan Byrne came off the bench and scored a hat trick as well, only taking three shots to get there. Byrne ended the game with five goals.

The game started off quickly, with Clemson and Queens trading scores back and forth. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Shurtleff started off the game for the Tigers, scoring back-to-back goals. Queens quickly returned scores of their own, with #4 Lily Greenwell scoring off a turnover and #22 Kayleen Favreau putting in one of her own.

Scoring continued to go back and forth, with things looking close at the end of the first quarter. Before it ended, however, the Tigers went on a scoring run, earning three in the last minute and a half. After that, it truly was all Clemson.

Scoring seven straight goals in the second quarter, the Tigers went up by ten and started a running clock without even completing the first half. Goals were spread across the roster, with Demma Hall scoring a highlight goal after hitting a spin move before sending the ball into the top corner of the net.

After the scoring spree, the Tigers continued to take hold of the game. It was the third quarter when Byrne scored three straight, helping the Tigers take an even larger lead. Queens earned one of their own, but one goal alone couldn’t even make a dent into the 13-point lead Clemson had amassed.

The Tigers only went up from there, scoring five more goals to seal away the game. Clemson ended the game with 41 shots compared to Queens’ 10, dominating the Royals offensively and owning the game from the start.

The Tigers will look to keep their winning streak alive in their upcoming game against the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, March 8, at noon.
