CLEMSON — It’s almost NFL Draft Time.
Clemson Football held its annual Pro Day event Thursday morning, with seven athletes speaking to coaches and scouts from NFL clubs and competing in drills and exercises for them.
One player who came to the event was Jake Briningstool, a tight end from Brentwood, Tennessee. At Clemson, he set the record for most receptions and yards for a tight end in school history and became a revered Tiger.
Briningstool spoke to the media after the event to share his thoughts on the event and his performance.
“I thought it was a good day,” Briningstool said. “It was pretty cool to be back in Clemson, back home, and able to get some reps in with Cade [Klubnik].”
Klubnik threw passes to Briningstool, as he ran position drills and short and 3-cone shuttle for the NFL scouts present. In his performance, he exemplified his burst and power while having smooth catching and route running. There were a couple of miscues, whether that be on himself or Cade, but they were overshadowed by his good makes.
“It was a lot of fun,” Briningstool said. “I thought everybody did really well, and I really enjoyed it.”
His teammates did perform well, with defenders Barrett Carter and Payton Page running the 40-yard dash and doing the bench press and R.J. Mickens running field drills, as well as other exercises.
Overall, the Pro Day was a success for both Briningstool and his teammates, and his play showcased just what made him successful at Clemson over the past few years.
“That was my goal… come in here and make an impact,” Briningstool said. “Leave my own impact on the position. I think the position’s in a really good spot. They have a really good room going next year.”
Although Briningstool’s time at Clemson is ending, there is certainly a lot of talent to follow him, including tight ends Josh Sapp and Olsen Patt-Henry, who have played minimal but important roles up to this point.
Briningstool will look forward to private workouts and meetings with NFL clubs before the NFL Draft starts on April 24.
