Night Game in the Death Valley or Playoff Game in the Linc?

After earning their first Super Bowl championship rings last month, former Clemson standouts Will Shipley, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and K.J. Henry of the Philadelphia Eagles were featured on the latest episode of Clemson Football’s official podcast, 2 Right Turns.

Shipley, Trotter and Henry have been fortunate to play in two outstanding environments – Clemson’s Death Valley, and Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

That was the subject of a mailbag question from a fan in one segment of the podcast episode – which is better, a night game in the Valley or a playoff game in the Linc?

Trotter, Henry and Shipley all gave their answers to the loaded question, with Trotter going first.

“I love my Clemson fans. It’s just two different types of energy…,” said Trotter, who was selected by the Eagles in the fifth round (No. 155 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft after spending three years at Clemson (2021-23) and earning All-American honors in both 2022 and 2023.

“Clemson, you go get hyped, you go get the energy. Philly fans, a little bit more crazy… But I might have to say the playoff game in the Linc.”

Henry responded next and didn’t shy away from the question.

“Man, it’s 100 percent (playoff game in the Linc) – I’m going to spin it like it is – it’s 100 percent,” said Henry, who just completed in his second NFL season after originally being drafted by the Washington Commanders in the fifth round (No. 137 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft following five seasons at Clemson from 2018-22.

“And that has nothing to do with Clemson fans, and everything to do with it’s a whole lot more alcohol consumption happening in these Philly stands, alright. And during a playoff game, that thing was electric. … So from someone who’s just witnessing it, getting to watch these boys do what they do, there’s nothing like that in the world, bro. That’s number one. Close second is that Valley.”

Shipley agreed with Henry and Trotter.

“I think I’m a third there too,” said Shipley, who was picked by the Eagles in the fourth round (No. 127 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft after a superlative three-year career both athletically and academically at Clemson from 2021-23.

“I just think that the magnitude of the moment, it being a playoff game and then everything else that they said. It’s special in the Linc. Not to say that it ain’t special in the Valley. I think there’s also a little recency bias there. Three playoff games in the Linc, and they were all electric.”
