More Injury Updates as Clemson Opens Spring Practice

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media on Friday before the Tigers officially began spring practice.

Swinney gave a number of injury updates, including updates on DL Stephiylan Green, CB Jeadyn Lukus and OL Walker Parks.

Swinney also provided injury updates on a slew of other players.

Here’s a rundown of those injury updates:

  • Freshman LB Logan Anderson (ACL): “He’s really doing well, but he won’t get any live work this spring. We’re super excited about him, but he had an ACL back in the season, so he’ll be out.”
  • Redshirt sophomore RB Jay Haynes (ACL): “Y’all all know about Jay Haynes getting hurt in the (ACC) Championship Game.”
  • Junior TE Olsen Patt-Henry (shoulder): “We had to do some work on him as well. He’s doing great as well. His was a shoulder.”
  • Redshirt senior DE Zaire Patterson (foot): “Zaire Patterson broke his foot, so he’s working through that and coming back. So, he’ll be out as well.”
  • Redshirt sophomore OL Ian Reed (knee): “He’s actually really trending in a good direction, so I’m excited about that. It’s been a process for him since he got hurt back in the fall.”
  • Redshirt junior WR/holder Clay Swinney (foot): “Clay Swinney broke his foot. He just got out of a boot. He won’t be able to run around. He’ll be able to hold, but he won’t be able to run around. He literally just got out a boot yesterday. He had a broken bone in his foot.”
  • Redshirt freshman DT Champ Thompson: “He’s working his way back. He had some cleanup surgery he had to have done.”
  • Sophomore OL Elyjah Thurmon (ankle): “He probably, at some point, will get back into practice, probably in green. Probably won’t get any live work, but he’s probably going to be back into practice at some point.”
  • Freshman DE Ari Watford (ACL): “Another really highly recruited D-end, a guy we’re super excited about that also tore his ACL last year that’ll be back and ready to go. But he’s here.”

Other players, who weren’t mentioned by Swinney during his press conference, include redshirt senior OL Tristan Leigh, redshirt junior OL Collin Sadler, redshirt senior OL Dietrick Pennington and sixth-year DT DeMonte Capehart.

Leigh was in a yellow jersey at Friday’s practice, while Pennington, Sadler and Capehart were all in green jerseys.

A green jersey means a player can perform in most drills at practice, they just cannot participate in any live tackling drills. A yellow jersey means a player cannot participate in practice.
