No Hangover for No. 15 Clemson

CLEMSON — There was no hangover for No. 15 Clemson Thursday night at McWhorter.

Fresh off Tuesday’s come-from-victory over No. 9 South Carolina, the Tigers stayed focused and took care of business in a 6-2 victory over Boston College. The win marked Clemson’s 14th in its last 16 ACC games.

The Tigers (36-11, 15-4 ACC) got home runs from Macey Cintron and Julia Knowler, while Cintron also had a triple. Cintron finished her night at the plate 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs to go with her two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Knowler, who now has a team-best 14 home runs, also went 2-for-3, while driving in two runs.

“You never know how your team is going to act after a big rivalry win like we had the other night,” Clemson head coach John Rittman said. “We had a day to prep and I felt like we were very business like tonight.”

Cintron got the scoring going when she smacked a triple to left centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the first. Alex Brown led off the Clemson first with a walk.

Jamison Brockenbrough, who singled to start the third inning, scored on a fielder’s choice for a 2-0 lead. On the next at-bat, Knowler launched a 234-foot shot to centerfield for a two-run home run and a 4-0 advantage.

Boston College (19-22, 4-12 ACC) tried to come back with two runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a Zoe Hines’ double down the leftfield line with two outs that plated two runs.

However, Cintron continued her stellar game with a two-run 235-foot bomb to left centerfield that sealed the victory for Clemson. The home run also scored Knowler, who singled earlier in the inning.

“I was just trying to get on base and hit a line drive,” Cintron said about her dinger. “It was a 3-2 count, so I was just trying to fight off anything I did not want and then I got the nice changeup I was looking for. I just tried to stay on that one a little longer.”

Reese Basinger earned the win for Clemson. The righty gave up two runs on four hits. Cintron came on in the fifth inning and closed the game in the circle.

The win was Clemson’s seventh straight.

“We are just remembering who we are and what we do best and using those assets every day ,” Knowler said. “Postseason is a fun time, but we are just staying focused and finishing ACC play.”
