Finebaum Attacks Clemson, Death Valley

Paul Finebaum couldn’t resist taking another jab at Clemson.

The ESPN/SEC Network personality fielded a call from a Clemson fan, Jerry from Tennessee, on The Paul Finebaum Show this past week.

Jerry invited Finebaum and retiring ESPN legend Lee Corso to come to the Clemson-LSU season opener at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium on Aug. 30.

That led to a back-and-forth between Jerry and Finebaum about where the real Death Valley is, as LSU’s Tiger Stadium is also dubbed Death Valley.

“We’d like to invite you and Lee Corso to come to Death Valley for the Clemson Tiger-LSU game on August the 30th,” Jerry said. “He would be right when he put on a Clemson Tiger mascot hat, and we could settle this once and for all, where Death Valley is.”

“I can settle that for you right now, Jerry,” Finebaum responded. “I don’t have to come to Clemson. It’s in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.”

Jerry then asked Finebaum how long Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge has been called Death Valley.

“It doesn’t matter. Sometimes it’s just the way it feels,” Finebaum answered. “You Clemsonites are hanging on some antiquated… You’ve got the Rock. You’ve got the stadium deal. You’ve got the hard-to-find city that you live in.”

Finebaum has been known to take shots at Clemson, so his comments probably won’t surprise Clemson fans. Finebaum’s comments came as no surprise to Jerry, either.

“I’m getting exactly what I expected from you,” Jerry said.

“I’m sure everybody over there on the ACC Network would be happy to take your call,” Finebaum quipped back.
