One of Clemson’s top defensive end targets came off the board rather abruptly on Sunday.
Four-star EDGE Cam Brooks announced a commitment to Cal after a recent unofficial visit to Berkeley. Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Miami, Ohio State, and Auburn were the nine finalists.
Brooks has well over 30 offers, with many high-level football programs having pulled the trigger. He picked up his offer from Clemson back in early September and was scheduled to be at the big official visit weekend from May 30 to June 2. Florida State and Miami were also scheduled to get officials.
With Brooks committing elsewhere, that leaves four-star Dre Quinn as the only edge rusher set to be on hand for the official visit weekend. Four-star Bryce Perry-Wright is set to visit that weekend, but he’s seen as more of an interior guy, although he does have the versatility to move outside.
It will be interesting to see how the staff responds to Brooks coming off the board earlier than expected, and who they target next.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Brooks was last on campus for the Elite Retreat last month. He ranks No. 88 overall in the 247 Composite Rankings and No. 9 among all edge rushers.
