Latest NCAA Tournament Projections for Clemson Baseball

This weekend is a big one for the Clemson Baseball team.

After being swept last weekend at NC State, the Tigers have now dropped four of their past five games. It is the first weekend series Erik Bakich’s team has dropped all season. However, despite last weekend’s result, Clemson fell just one spot to No. 3 in the D1 Baseball Top 25 rankings.

“We didn’t expect to go wire-to-wire,” Bakich told TCI after the sweep. “Hoping we would, but that is usually not the way it goes. The best teams, who are the best teams at the end, usually have to get through something, some type of adversity.”

The Tigers get a shot at righting the ship this weekend, as Clemson hits the road for what will be a crucial ACC series against No. 5 Florida State. The Seminoles are also coming in off a series loss, having dropped two out of three on the road at Louisville.

Not only are both teams fighting for one of those top four seeds in the upcoming ACC Tournament, but both are also looking to secure one of the top eight seeds in the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers currently sit at No. 8 in the RPI, with the Seminoles at No. 7.

In D1 Baseball’s latest projections, the publication has Clemson as the No. 7 overall seed, hosting Alabama, Xavier and Wright State in the bracket opposite of Georgia.

Baseball America has the Tigers as the No. 6 seed, hosting Kentucky, Connecticut and Holy Cross in the bracket opposite Florida State.

On3 currently projects Clemson as the No. 5 seed, hosting Southern Miss, Florida and High Point in the bracket opposite Coastal Carolina. This is an interesting projection, considering the Tigers hosted Coastal and High Point in the regional round last season before hosting and losing to Florida in the Super Regional round.

After the trip to Tallahassee, the Tigers will head to Conway to face off with Coastal Carolina in another matchup that looks to feature two teams currently inside the Top 15 of the RPI. The Chanticleers are currently No. 12. Coastal took the first game from Clemson earlier in the season, knocking off the Tigers 8-2 at Doug Kingsmore.
