Bakich Updates Status of Ethan Darden

CONWAY, S.C. — Clemson is looking to get one of its veteran pitchers back in time for the postseason.

Junior Ethan Darden has been out for close to a month now. His last appearance came on April 12, when the Tigers knocked off Stanford 11-10.

“He’s got a tricep thing and his treatment protocol, they want him to immobilize it with a brace,” head coach Bakich told The Clemson Insider. “Nothing surgical, nothing serious. He will be back this season, probably a matter of weeks.”

Darden began the season as the Tigers’ Saturday starter and got off to a really good start. However, once ACC play began, the left-hander started to become less effective, eventually losing his spot in the weekend rotation. Now, it appears there were some outside factors possibly playing into some of that ineffectiveness.

While Darden is likely going to miss the rest of the regular season, Bakich is hoping to get the left-hander back in time for the ACC Tournament, which begins on May 20. If not for the conference tournament, Darden is expected back in time for regional play.

“I think we’re looking at him maybe being out for the rest of the regular season, and then look to have him back possibly as early as the ACC tournament, and certainly for regionals,” Bakich added. “So that would be a good guy to have back. Another weapon on the pitching staff.”

For the season, Darden is 4-2 with an ERA of 6.07. He has 34 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched with 16 walks and he’s hit two batters.

Sophomore Drew Titsworth has served as the Saturday starter over the past three weeks, having allowed six earned runs in 14.1 innings pitched during that stretch.
