ESPN Hands Out Grade for Clemson’s 2024-25 Season

This week, an ESPN writer took a look back at the latest Clemson men’s basketball season.

Myron Medcalf, who covers college basketball for ESPN, unveiled his final evaluation for the Tigers and every other ACC team for the 2024-25 season.

In his ACC report cards, Medcalf handed out an A grade to Clemson.

“The Tigers lost two key contributors from a team that made a run to the Elite Eight in 2023-24: PJ Hall, an all-ACC first team selection in 2023-24 who now plays for the Denver Nuggets, and five-year veteran guard Joe Girard III,” Medcalf wrote. “But Brad Brownell regrouped from the turnover as well as any coach in America could. Chase Hunter and Ian Schieffelin emerged as elite players in the ACC. And Jaeden Zackery and Viktor Lakhin, a pair of transfers, emerged as standouts for a Tigers squad that won 27 games, gave Duke its only ACC loss of the year and earned a 5-seed in the NCAA tournament.”

Clemson’s 27 wins in 2024-25 mark a school record. The Tigers earned wins over AP Top 5 Kentucky and Duke, and Clemson finished 18-2 in the ACC – the most conference wins in school history, including a record 15 by double-digits (third-most in ACC history). The Tigers finished 9-1 on the road in league play, four more ACC road wins than any previous season.

Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, SMU and Stanford also received A grades from Medcalf.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, one team – Miami – got an F grade after finishing the 2024-25 campaign with a 7-24 overall record, including a 3-17 mark in conference play.
