Seeing as we are in the midst of another contact period, members of the Clemson coaching staff are back out on the road checking in on high school prospects.
Defensive ends coach Chris Rumph made a stop at South Pittsburgh (TN) on Monday, visiting with new offer JR Hardrick. The three-star defensive end announced an offer from the Tigers last week, and this is Rumph’s third time visiting Hardrick during the contact period. He visited Clemson in late March.
“I feel very honored,” Hardrick recently told TCI. “That is a privilege that is very high up there. I did not really expect that to be honest. I mean, I know I still got a lot of room to improve. I’m just very thankful and grateful, and just give God all the glory.”
Kentucky, Virginia, Mississippi State and Wake Forest have all offered in the past week, and Hardick already had offers from Georgia Tech and Louisville. The 6-foot-6 EDGE also told TCI he plans to attend Clemson’s big official visit weekend from May 30 to June 2.
Last week, linebackers coach Ben Boulware was in North Carolina, checking on four-star linebacker Jalahthan Mayfield (Lincolnton). The 2027 prospect is a prime candidate to pick up one of the Tigers’ opening offers when they start going out next month.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder has close to 20 offers in total, with Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and South Carolina being just a few of the bigger ones. Auburn, Penn State, Nebraska and Virginia Tech are some of his most recent offers. Mayfield last visited Clemson in the spring.
The 247 Composite ranks Mayfield at No. 178 overall, No. 13 among all linebackers and No. 7 in the state of North Carolina.
