A former Clemson two-sport standout is on fire in the minor leagues.
Will Taylor is tearing it up for the Bradenton Marauders, the Single-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 22-year-old outfielder recently enjoyed a seven-game hitting streak, during which he recorded a.433 batting average with two home runs and seven RBI. He notched five multi-hit games over that span.
Taylor has missed some time this season, as he was placed on the injured list back on April 11 before being activated from the IL on May 4.
But in 26 games as of June 5, Taylor was impressively hitting .330 across 88 at-bats with a stellar .427 on-base percentage and .523 slugging percentage (.950 OPS), to go with his two homers, nine doubles, one triple, 11 RBI, 20 runs scored and seven stolen bases.
It’s still early in his pro career, but Taylor is off to a flying start this season and making the Pirates look smart after they took him in the fifth round (No. 145 overall pick) of last year’s MLB Draft.
Of course, Taylor entered the pro ranks after playing both baseball and football at Clemson as an outfielder on the diamond and wide receiver on the gridiron. After two years with the Tigers’ football team in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, he decided to play baseball full time in July 2023 and played his first fall season with the baseball squad that year.
One of the most athletic players on the team with good speed, Taylor was a career .313 hitter with a .484 slugging percentage and .470 on-base percentage in 107 games (105 starts) over three seasons with the Tigers. He had 18 doubles, three triples, 13 homers, 69 RBIs, 109 runs and 18 steals.
