Most years, Clemson tends to target a small number of running backs.
For example, in the current 2026 class, the Tigers have offered just three running backs. Four if you count Jaylen McGill, who eventually reclassified. In 2025, only two offers were extended, and both would ultimately result in commitments.
Looking to 2027, don’t expect that philosophy to change. So far, Clemson has offered just one running back, four-star David “Tre” Segarra. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound in-state (Byrnes) back was one of numerous players at the position to work out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp earlier this month.
As a sophomore, Segarra had a limited workload, rushing for 259 yards and averaging 5.4 yards per attempt. Those numbers are expected to rise dramatically this season as he takes on more of a featured role. He also earned All-Region honors as a soccer player this past season.
Segarra already has more than a dozen offers, including South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, Duke and Syracuse. He is a Top 250 talent and considered one of the 15-best backs in the class.
Another name worth watching, when and if the board were to expand, might be four-star Andrew Beard (Prince Avenue Christian, Bogart, GA). The 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect also worked out at camp and was one of the better backs on hand.
Beard already has more than two dozen offers, including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan and Penn State.
Beard finished his sophomore season with 1,937 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging 138.4 yards per game. In 10 of his 14 games, Beard went over the century mark. He also caught 32 passes for another 525 yards, with five touchdown catches.
