Clemson ‘Up There’ for Highly-Rated TE

Grant Haviland is one of the most heavily pursued tight ends in the 2027 recruiting class.

The four-star talent (Milton, Alpharetta, GA) is quickly approaching the 30-offer mark, with Clemson being one of the latest schools to toss its hat in the ring.

Haviland made his very first trip to campus earlier this month to work out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.

“I loved it there,” Haviland told The Clemson Insider. “The culture in the program is amazing, and you can feel it right when you step into the facilities. The energy in the building was extremely positive and confident for the upcoming season. Getting to spend time and getting to know some of the staff was great. The feedback I got was very positive on how I performed. It was great to experience some coaching from Coach Richardson and the rest of the staff.”

Fast-forward to Monday, and Haviland became the second tight end in the 2027 class to announce an offer from the Tigers.

“Me and Coach (Kyle) Richardson got on the phone (Monday) morning, and after we caught up with each other, he told me I had an offer to play football at Clemson,” he said. “It was a great feeling to know that I went and earned the offer at camp and from a school that I think very highly of.”

While the relationship between Haviland and Richardson is still in the early stages, Clemson’s tight end coach has made a strong early impression.

“He’s a family-oriented person,” Haviland said. “He will coach you hard, cares a lot about his players, and can help develop you as a player and person.”

While the 6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect hasn’t given much thought to a timeline for having a decision made, when the time comes, he will have plenty of options.

Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas are just a few of Haviland’s offers. Now, Clemson has a seat at the table, and he said he is hoping to get back to campus for the season opener against LSU.

“There are still a lot of schools recruiting me heavily,” Haviland added. “Clemson is definitely up there with who’s recruiting me the hardest.”

Haviland is one of the top tight ends in the class, with Rivals ranking him No. 42 overall and No. 3 among all players at his position, and he now officially has an opportunity to join Richardson’s room at Clemson.

“I’m looking for a program with a great culture and a tradition of winning,” Haviland said. “Coaches who coach hard, and a program that utilizes the tight ends in many ways.”
