Basinger Named Academic All-American

CLEMSON – Clemson softball senior Reese Basinger was selected to the Third Team Academic All-America softball team, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday.

Basinger, a Biological Sciences graduate, became the third player in Clemson softball history to become an Academic All-American after Sam Russ (2022) and Caroline Jacobsen (2023) previously garnered the honor.

The Evans, Georgia native earned the third-team spot as a pitcher after posting an 18-6 record in the circle during the 2025 campaign. She is one of five players from the ACC to be on any of the three Academic All-America Teams – 34 student-athletes in total.

Basinger started in a program-record 35 games in 2025, making 44 total appearances. An All-ACC First Team and NFCA First Team All-Region selection, she maintained a 2.94 ERA with three solo shutouts and two saves through 178.1 innings of work. The 2025 ACC Pitcher of the Year struck out a total of 121 batters while limiting opponents to a .255.

To be eligible for the honor, players must sport at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average – Basinger’s is a 4.00 – and be a starter or significant reserve for their respective teams.
