You can’t win them all.
The Tigers have experienced a lot of recruiting success in the month of June, including beating out Texas for a coveted defensive end on Thursday, but one day later, they have missed on one of their top remaining targets.
Five-star safety Joey O’Brien (LaSalle, PA) announced a commitment to Notre Dame on Friday. O’Brien chose the Fighting Irish over Clemson, Penn State and Oregon. He is hoping to play at both safety and receiver at the collegiate level.
O’Brien nabbed his offer from the Tigers in February, then was on hand for the Elite Retreat in March, before returning for the big official visit weekend earlier this month. Penn State got his first official last month and he hit Notre Dame and Oregon after his official to Clemson.
Clemson already has safety commitments from four-stars Kentavion Anderson and Kaden Gephardt and still has offers out to four-star Tylan Wilson and three-star Blake Stewart.
247 ranks O’Brien No. 30 overall and No. 4 among all safeties.
