Former Clemson Player Officially Enters Transfer Portal

A former Clemson football player has officially entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Freshman athlete Marquise Henderson announced Friday afternoon that Clemson has submitted his notification of transfer and he’s now officially in the portal.

Clemson announced Thursday that Henderson was dismissed from the Tigers’ program. Clemson did not explain why he was dismissed from the team.

“Clemson has made the decision to dismiss Marquise Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward,” a Clemson spokesperson said in a release.

Henderson, a native of Belton, S.C., did not compete much in the spring. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said on March 12 that Henderson was battling a hamstring injury. He also did not play in the spring game on April 5.

Henderson never officially played at Clemson, as he signed with the Tigers in 2024 as an athlete before enrolling in January 2025.

A record-setting running back at nearby Belton-Honea Path (S.C.) High School, Henderson led his team to the 2024 State Class AAAA Semifinals in the state of South Carolina. He finished his high school career just shy of 8,000 all-purpose yards over 47 games.

Henderson, who also returned kicks, averaged 11 yards per rush on 577 career carries for a school-record 6,369 yards. He was listed as a four-star recruit coming out of high school.
