Clemson has 19 players currently committed in the 2026 recruiting class. That is already four more than the Tigers signed in the last recruiting cycle.
However, the staff is still looking to add more pieces to its class that currently ranks sixth nationally per Rivals.
So what are the remaining needs?
Clemson has yet to land a running back. Top target, four-star Jae Lamar, is set to announce on Wednesday, but odds are he winds up elsewhere. No harm in taking a big swing, as Lamar is one of the best backs in the class, but if he indeed does end up committing to another school, the staff will need to reassess and turn its attention towards another target.
The Tigers are facing a similar situation at linebacker. Since the beginning of the year, five-star Tyler Atkinson has become the priority. He was the only player at the position to attend the big official visit weekend earlier this month. Again, no harm in swinging for the fences. Atkinson is widely regarded as one of the top two linebackers in the class. Clemson, Georgia, Oregon and Texas each got official visits. The Longhorns got the final one instead of Ohio State. A decision is likely to come at some point in July. Miss on him, and you still need to sign a linebacker in the class.
Clemson already has three wide receivers committed in the class and took a shot at landing a fourth by hosting NFL legacy Devin Fitzgerald. The three-star is the son of former All-Pro Larry Fitzgerald and he was the only wideout on hand for the official visit weekend. With him likely headed elsewhere, the Tigers likely stick with the three they have. Fitzgerald announces on July 5.
Expect two more defensive linemen to be added, and the two top targets are set to announce in the very near future. Four-star Keshawn Stancil is set to announce on Saturday, while five-star Bryce Perry-Wright announces on July 4 in Las Vegas. The Tigers appear to be in good shape with both. Clemson already has two ends committed and one defensive tackle.
Two safeties are already in the fold, and Clemson just missed on a third last week when five-star Joey O’Brien committed to Notre Dame. However, four-star Blake Stewart has been trending towards the Tigers. He announces on July 13. Clemson, Miami, Vanderbilt and Michigan are the four finalists.
Clemson also already has two corners committed in the class, but has been looking to take a third. Four-star Danny Odem had emerged as the top target but committed to Nebraska on Monday. Whether or not the staff zeros in on a new target is yet to be determined, but after not taking a corner in 2025 and Tavoy Feagin transferring out after the spring, the odds are they do.
