Clemson has long been known as one of the schools to hand out the fewest offers each class.
Dabo Swinney prefers to keep the pool of candidates smaller than most. The head coach wants an offer from the Tigers to mean something, and most recruits will go on record saying that it does. That doesn’t mean Clemson will land every guy who holds an offer, obviously, but generally speaking, most recruits do feel that earning an offer from the Tigers is a little special.
Look no further than the class of 2027 for an example. Since the staff began offering players in that class on June 1, only 26 offers have been extended to date. Just two have gone to defensive linemen.
Five-star DE DJ Jacobs announced his offer two weeks ago. The Georgia legacy was named a MaxPreps All-American and the AJC 4A defensive player of the year for his impressive sophomore campaign last year. That came on the heels of him earning MaxPreps freshman All-American honors the year before.
The 6-foot-5 pass rusher is rated as the ninth-best player and third-best EDGE in the class per the Composite Rankings. He already owns three dozen offers. His father, David Jacobs, played for the Dawgs from 1999-2002.
Four-star Seth Tillman is currently the only other defensive lineman with an offer. The in-state talent out of South Pointe is listed as an end by some of the recruiting services, but the 6-foot-3, 255-pound recruit is also capable of sliding inside.
Tillman picked up his offer after working out at camp earlier this summer. He has been a regular attendee at camp. He currently holds more than a dozen offers, including South Carolina, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina and Texas A&M. 247 ranks him No. 100 overall and No. 6 among all defensive linemen.
