5-Star Target Trending Away from Clemson?

There appears to be a little deja vu in the air.

Early last week, Clemson fans sweated as Texas made a strong push for four-star DE target Dre Quinn. Ultimately, that proved out to be more smoke than fire, as Quinn eventually announced a commitment to Clemson.

This week, something very similar is playing out with what has arguably been the Tigers’ top target in the class, five-star Bryce Perry-Wright, who will be teammates with Quinn this season at Buford (GA). Clemson has been the perceived leader going back more than a year. Perry-Wright has visited Clemson more than any other school, and even has some family connections that tie him to the program.

However, Texas A&M, which got Perry-Wright’s last official visit, is making a late push to overtake the Tigers and win this thing. Over the past few days, multiple predictions have come in for the Aggies, and one source has indicated to TCI that A&M has offered a substantial package in an attempt to lure Perry-Wright to College Station.

This one is playing out eerily similar to the situation with Quinn and Texas. The Longhorns also had a lot of predictions in their favor in the days leading up to Quinn’s commitment. But this also feels a little different. There is definitely some fire to go along with the smoke.

Make no mistake, missing on a single recruit is never going to be make or break for a program, but Perry-Wright going elsewhere would be a big blow to the Tigers’ 2026 class. He’s a guy who always just seemed destined to be a part of the class. He is one of the top players in the class, regardless of position, and many consider him to be one of the top three defensive linemen. Add in the fact that Perry-Wright is capable of playing end, a position of need in the current class, and that would make missing on him hurt even more.

Perry-Wright is set to announce on Saturday during a ceremony that begins at 5 p.m.
