CLEMSON — Clemson Football hit the practice fields at Jervey Meadows on Wednesday for Day 6 of fall camp. It was also the first day the Tigers were in full pads.
The media was allowed to watch the first four periods of fall camp. Below are some of what we saw.
–The big news from practice was the absence of defensive tackle Peter Woods. A Clemson Spokesperson told us Woods was sick and that is why he was unable to attend practice.
–There were a few injuries to report. Cornerback Jeadyn Lukus was in a yellow jersey. A yellow jersey means a player cannot practice. We saw Lukus in a yellow jersey on Day 2 of camp, as well.
–Another prominent defender that was not practicing was starting safety Khalil Barnes. He was also in a yellow jersey. Also in yellow was freshman safety Noah Dixon.
–As the media was leaving the field, defensive ends coach Chris Rumph came up to me and said, playfully, that we “need to hurry up because we were bringing too much negative energy to the field.” It was a fun exchange.
–Though he was joking, there was some truth to it. It did appear while we were out there that there was not a much energy as before, at least on the defensive side. It seemed likes guys were dragging.
–Despite the energy, new defensive coordinator Tom Allen was doing his best. He was running between the drills and trying to fire up his defense. He told his linebackers, “Quick feet, effort and motivation.”
–Again, Allen was really good about not tipping his hand on who was starting. He again had the rotations mixed up. With the linebackers, we did see Jeremiah Alexander working with Wade Woodaz and then on the next one Sammy Brown was working with Woodaz.
–I noticed Rumph had a short conversation with Will Heldt during one drill. I think it was more Heldt asking Rumph a question more than anything else.
