Adam Randall is expected to be a key piece of the Clemson offense this season.
After making the move from wideout, Randall came out of the spring atop the depth chart at running back and has kept a firm grasp on the position throughout fall camp as the No. 4 Tigers inch closer to their season-opening matchup against No. 9 LSU on August 30.
However, as TCI previously reported, Randall suffered a minor injury in practice earlier this week. The team held its second scrimmage of camp on Thursday morning, and Randall was a go.
Dabo Swinney provided the latest update on the senior back’s status.
“Had some huge runs,” the head coach said after the Thursday scrimmage. “Had a couple of big plays early. I think about the third play of the game, he had a 50-60 yard run. It was awesome. He had a good day.
With Jarvis Green already expected to miss most, if not all, of the upcoming season with a foot injury, and Jay Haynes still working his way back from an ACL injury suffered last December, Clemson can ill-afford to take another major hit at the position.
Randall moved to running back before Clemson’s College Football Playoff game against Texas last December. Though he only had a few practices under his belt, Randall still had a 41-yard run and led the Tigers with 44 yards on the day.
During his three years at receiver, Randall totaled 48 receptions for 533 yards with two touchdowns.
