Another National Analyst Picks Clemson to Win It All

CBS Sports college football analyst Aaron Taylor revealed his projected field for the 12-team College Football Playoff this season.

Taylor projects Clemson to be the No. 1 seed and beat No. 8 seed Texas in the quarterfinals, before advancing to beat fifth-seeded Ohio State in one semifinal matchup, with No. 2 seed Notre Dame beating third-seeded Georgia in the other semifinal.

Taylor then predicts Clemson to win the national championship with a victory over Taylor’s alma mater – Notre Dame – to cap off an undefeated campaign for the Tigers.

“Clemson’s a team that’s built just like they were in 2016 and 2018. I think they advance. … We know what’s coming – it’s time for some lugubriousness! But I’m not going to jinx my team like [that]. … I got Clemson winning. Wink wink, Notre Dame,” said Taylor, a former NFL offensive lineman and College Football Hall of Famer who was a consensus first-team All-American in 1992 and 1993 at Notre Dame.

“I just think Dabo, with his ability to adjust and adapt and go into the portal and get some free agent pieces, has a team that goes undefeated and runs the table.”

Of course, it was announced back in May that the Tigers and Fighting Irish agreed to a 12-year annual home-and-home series across the 2027-38 seasons.

Clemson holds a 5-3 lead in the all-time series with Notre Dame. The two schools have met six times since 2015, including four meetings in the regular season and two in the postseason. The schools have split the four regular season meetings, with Clemson winning both postseason matchups (2018 Cotton Bowl Classic, 2020 ACC Championship Game).

Overall, Taylor’s projected 12-team CFP field features No. 1 Clemson, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Penn State, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Oregon, No. 10 Boise State, No 11 SMU and No. 12 Utah.
