Venables: ‘If Anybody’s Watching This, I Need a Job’

Tyler Venables enrolled at Clemson back in January 2020. Fast forward to the present, and the veteran safety is now preparing for his sixth and final season with the Tigers in 2025.

Over his five-year college career to this point, Venables has played in 50 games, tallying 114 tackles (6.5 for loss), a sack, an interception and eight pass breakups across 876 defensive snaps.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder has dealt with multiple injuries during his career, and two years ago, he rehabbed from a hip injury for much of the 2023 season but served in a student coach capacity – a role befitting the son of former Clemson defensive coordinator and current Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables.

So, what does the future hold for Tyler after the 2025 campaign?

After his Clemson career comes to an end, he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father and get into the coaching profession himself.

“I think so. Nothing’s certain,” Tyler said following Clemson’s practice on Monday.

“I’m waiting for my multi-billion dollar business idea, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen,” he added with a big smile.

Of course, Tyler’s father served as Clemson’s defensive coordinator from 2012-21, helping the Tigers win two national titles and six ACC Championships before becoming the head coach at Oklahoma in 2022.

Tyler is looking to finish his Clemson career with a flourish this season, but after that, he’s excited to embark on his coaching career in college football.

“I’ll go be an intern, a GA, whatever I need to be to get my foot in the door somewhere,” he said.

“So if anybody’s watching this, I need a job. I’m excited. It’ll be fun.”

Tyler, who completed a microinternship with LyonJay in Greenville in the spring of 2022 and earned his degree in political science in December 2023, recorded 16 tackles (one for loss) and a pass breakup in 160 defensive snaps over 14 games last season.
