A former Clemson standout was waived by an NFL team today ahead of Tuesday’s roster cut deadline.

The New York Jets announced they have waived six players, including former Tiger cornerback Mario Goodrich.

NFL teams must trim their rosters down to 53 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Goodrich was claimed off waivers by the Jets on Aug. 2 after being waived by the Denver Broncos on Aug. 1. He was previously released by the United Football League’s Birmingham Stallions so he could sign with an NFL team, and he initially signed with the Broncos back on June 18.

The 6-foot, 186-pounder posted eight tackles for the Jets this preseason.

Goodrich dealt with an injury but played in seven games for the Stallions this year (six regular season, one postseason). Across those seven contests, he tallied 17 total tackles (one for loss), six pass breakups and three forced fumbles.

Goodrich signed with the Stallions in February after being waived by the New York Giants before the start of the 2024 NFL season.

He originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and spent two seasons on the Eagles’ practice squad before being waived by Philly and claimed off the waivers by the Giants.

Goodrich appeared in four games (one start) for the Eagles during the 2023 season, posting five total tackles (three solo).

Goodrich finished his four-year Clemson career from 2018-21 credited with 84 tackles (0.5 for loss), 15 pass breakups, five interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 47 games (16 starts). He earned third-team All-America honors from PFF and first-team All-ACC status for his performance as a senior in 2021, when he concluded his career as MVP of a win in the 2021 Cheez-It Bowl.
