Clemson’s Offensive Struggles Continue in First Half

It’s safe to say Clemson’s struggles offensively early this season carried over to the first half of today’s game at Georgia Tech.

The 12th-ranked Tigers (1-1) were able to put together a critical late touchdown drive after a rough start, but still trailed the Yellow Jackets (2-0), 13-7, after two quarters at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.

Even Clemson’s touchdown drive – a 16-play, 75-yard march — didn’t come easy. But the Tigers managed to convert a third-and-22 on a 30-yard run by Adam Randall, and then Cade Klubnik was later able to cap off the drive with a touchdown rush on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line.

Before that possession, Clemson had only mustered 83 total yards. Prior to the touchdown drive, Clemson’s first three possessions resulted in the fumble by Klubnik, a missed 52-yard field goal attempt by Nolan Hauser, and a three-and-out.

Overall, Clemson finished the first half with eight first downs and 158 total yards. Klubnik went 9-of-14 passing for 72 yards with the aforementioned touchdown and a fumble.

Clemson entered today’s contest averaging 288.5 total yards per game (120th in FBS), 213 passing yards per game (77th), 75.5 rushing yards per game (128th) and 18.5 points per game (110th).

The Tigers are missing a couple of starters on offense in star wide receiver Antonio Williams and left tackle Tristan Leigh.

Clemson will get the ball to start the second half.
