Swinney Gives Latest on Injured Running Back

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday’s game against Syracuse.

Swinney was asked for the latest injury update on running back Jay Haynes, as he looks to get back after tearing an ACL last December.

How has the redshirt sophomore progressed so far from his injury?

“He’s still coming,” Swinney said. “He had the quad strain… The quad strain kind of set him back. He’s still not fully back, but progressing.”

The Tigers lost Haynes to a torn ACL in last year’s ACC Championship Game. Before the injury, he rushed 43 times for 295 yards and three touchdowns and caught seven passes for 32 yards in 150 offensive snaps over 13 games.

During his first year at Clemson in 2023, the 5-foot-11, 195-pounder played 14 offensive snaps in three games while redshirting. He rushed six times for 35 yards with a touchdown and produced two catches for 20 yards and another touchdown.
