Swinney Confident Clemson Will Win National Title Again ‘Multiple Times’

Dabo Swinney is confident Clemson will win the national title again during his tenure. And not just one more national championship.

Despite the rough patch his program is going through right now, Clemson’s head coach firmly believes the Tigers are working their way back to “the top of the mountain.”

“We’re building our way back, and it’s not easy. It’s not perfect,” Swinney said during his Tuesday press conference. “But we’re going to win it again multiple times. We’re going to win it again.”

Swinney recalled saying the same thing during his introductory press conference on December 1, 2008, when he was formally named as Clemson’s head coach after previously serving as the interim head coach.

“I said that in ’08, December 1. Everybody laughed at me,” Swinney said. “I said, ‘We’re going to win a national championship at Clemson.’ Everybody laughed.”

Of course, Clemson has won two national championships under Swinney, most recently in 2018. The Tigers captured their first national title with Swinney at the helm in 2016, snapping a 35-year title drought for the program dating to its first title in 1981.

“When we struggled in ’09 and ’10 and ’11 and we’re losing, we’re having some bad runs and streaks, everybody wants me to do this and that – no, we’re going to do what we think is best for Clemson, and we’ll get there,” Swinney said.

“We’ll win again. We will.”
