Booger McFarland Gives Blunt Assessment of Clemson

ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland had a blunt assessment of Clemson following Saturday’s 34-21 loss to Syracuse at Death Valley.

McFarland weighed in on the Tigers after they fell to 1-3 this season – the worst start in Dabo Swinney’s career at Clemson.

So, what’s wrong with the Tigers?

“They’re not a good team,” McFarland said. “They’re poorly coached. They got the talent, but their good talent is not showing up and playing well. Offensive coordinator Garrett Riley is not putting Cade Klubnik in position. You change the defensive coordinator, you bring Tom Allen from Penn State over, the defense is underperforming. No ifs, ands or buts – they’re a bad team.”

ESPN college football studio host Kevin Negandhi noted that Clemson trailed for 56 minutes in its game against Syracuse, continuing the trend of slow starts for the Tigers, who have trailed for 55 percent of the season.

McFarland, a two-time Super Bowl champion and former first-team All-American and All-SEC defensive tackle at LSU, says “Dabo has a lot of questions to answer.”

“Because he said his team was better. They haven’t played that way,” McFarland said.

“It’s really simple,” he added. “Their best players and their best coaches aren’t performing, and I did say coaches because I mean the defensive coordinator, Tom Allen, the head coach, Dabo Swinney, and all their top-notch players – they aren’t performing well. There’s enough blame to go around. And right now, it’s a lot in Clemson, South Carolina.”
