Trey Wimbley is still fairly new to the Upstate.
The 2028 four-star wideout grew up in Birmingham, rooting for Alabama, but he’s now at nearby Daniel, starring for the Lions.
Being so close has allowed Wimbley to get to Clemson frequently. He made multiple visits last season and has been on hand for all three of the Tigers’ home games so far in 2025.
“They just make you feel at home,” Wimbley told The Clemson Insider. “They are just a good program. Every time I go there, they make me feel welcome.”
Being on hand so often has let him become overly familiar with Dabo Swinney and how he runs his program.
“The culture is very good,” Wimbley added. “They always talk about God. I am a Christian, and it means a lot to me that they take that seriously and they put God first. I just really like it there.”
Being a frequent visitor this season also means Wimbley has seen some of the struggles on the offensive side of the ball.
“I think they will definitely bounce back,” he said. “They are definitely playing hard. It is college football, you aren’t going to win all of your games.”
However, the blue-chip wideout is confident that under Swinney’s leadership, the Tigers will bounce back.
“I have a lot of confidence,” Wimbley said. “He has been winning for a long time, and one season doesn’t define your whole career.”
Wimbley burst onto the scene as a freshman, reeling in eight touchdown catches and averaging more than 20 yards per reception.
Those numbers have held up through the first five games of his sophomore campaign. Wimbley is still averaging more than 20 yards per catch and already has five touchdown grabs.
He already holds offers from SMU and Ole Miss, among others. He currently ranks No. 52 overall in the 247 Composite Rankings and No. 11 among all receivers. He also ranks No. 2 in the Palmetto State.
The only other visit he has planned at this time is one to Florida State in October, meaning it’s a safe bet he’ll be back at Clemson at some point this season.
Even without an offer, Wimbley already considers Clemson one of his top schools. He not only fully understands the recruiting process Swinney has in place, but he also respects it. With that in mind, when the Tigers do start offering players in his class next summer, Wimbley would be honored to land one.
“It would mean a lot to me, it would mean a lot,” Wimbley said. “That is a school that I see as being one of my top schools, and I could really see myself growing there.”
